Our Story
Hi, I’m Hannah and I’m the founder of Valkyrah. Like many women, I’ve struggled with my body image for as long as I can remember. I’ve ranged from undereating to overeating and my weight has been all over the place. But no matter how I looked, one thing stayed the same: I always viewed my body as something ugly and imperfect. How could I think anything different with the “perfect” bodies that cluttered my social media feed?
But one summer day in 2021 - I went to my first EDM music festival. The first thing that caught my attention was the outfits (moreso, the sheer volume of skin that I was seeing). I thought to myself: “These outfits are incredible, but I’m just not confident enough to wear something like that.” But eventually, I finally got the courage to try out my first outfit. After all, if all these people with different (and similar) body types could wear them with confidence, why couldn’t I?
So, I did. I remember walking through my first festival in a “swimsuit” rave outfit, and I definitely felt self-conscious. But as the night progressed, I found myself becoming desensitized to the way my body looked. I actually felt more confident by simply practicing showing off my body, instead of covering it up like I usually did. Now - this isn’t a message to say that showing skin is the key to feeling confident. Rather, I had a fear of my body being seen, and the outfit was the practice of facing that fear. The outfit became a tool to practice confidence so that I could carry that confidence into other areas of my life.
And so began Valkyrah, a brand founded on building confidence in who we are. Because I think if we were all a little bit happier with ourselves, the world would be a much better place.
To put it simply:
We believe in embracing our body instead of hiding it - because everyone deserves to be confident in how they look AND who they are.
